Welcome to From The Root

From The Root is a neuroscience and trauma-informed program focused on integrating social-emotional, family culture, and mindfulness practices to enrich the development of young children. Our methodology is adult-first (the root of our children), working with adults caring for young children to understand the value of healthy living and the importance of connecting the mind, body, and brain.
Breaking through the transgenerational cycle of trauma, adults can transform their lives, impacting healthy development in young children. We provide an array of behavior management strategies (connecting the mind, body, and brain) on how the brain learns, supporting educators, families, and children to use everyday events into learning opportunities.
We provide parent education for the betterment and quality of parent-children interactions; enhancing communication, emotional support, family resiliency, and healthy relationships between family members.

What are ACEs?

We use researched-based knowledge to understand the effects ACEs have in early brain development. We know that adversity is an inevitable human race experience but understanding how we the adults can buffer toxic stress early on the lives of children can helps us get to the ROOT of our transgenerational cycle of trauma. We educate early childhood educators on how ACEs affect our neurobiological, mental healthy, and body.

Dr. Annette Oswald

Since 2005, Annette Oswald Ed.D. has dedicated her time exploring the dynamics between the relationships built in families, children and teachers for which contribute to early brain development, student success, and life-long fulfillment. She became intrigued on how these interactions and relationships influence the management of learning and behavior as these relationships served children as protective factors. To no one's surprise, her commitment to learning about social-emotional learning and educational neuroscience emphasized the many ways the management of behavior and learning increases teacher’s career satisfaction, improves student achievement, and builds healthy family connections. As the founder/executive director of From The Root Educational Services, Dr. Annette Oswald believes trauma-responsive social-emotional learning paves pathways to transformational changes in areas of child development through parent-child relationships, parent to parent interactions, parent-teacher connections, and child-teacher relationships.
With years of classroom experience, she is dedicated to developing training, coaching, and mentoring services for educators and parents to increase student achievement. After a decade of teaching in the classroom, Dr. Annette Oswald saw an education system failing their teachers and children, unconsciously hurting and frustrating educators and students, knowingly there had to be a healthier way. The result was From The Root, a neuroscience (brain-based) & trauma-informed approach to the management of learning and behavior for teachers, school administrators, parents/caregivers, & children. FTR is a self-regulation program rooted in neuroscience, child development research and psychology.
